It Has a Soul .. It Has a Life - The Story of the Girl Batoul Faraj

Batoul Faraj .. A Mother Who Hopes to Hold Her Daughter’s Hand

Batoul’s mother hopes that her daughter will be able to sit, to hold her hand, and to squeeze it when she is in pain, so that she can understand what hurts her and comfort her. These may seem like simple wishes, but they sum up a whole world of love and worry, and the journey of a mother striving to provide care for her daughter and looking for someone to support her in carrying this responsibility.

Batoul Faraj is a girl from Gaza, seven years and seven months old at the time her filmed testimony was recorded. According to her mother, she suffers from severe cerebral palsy and brain atrophy, which have affected her ability to move. Batoul needs care and help with the details of her daily life, as well as support that allows her to receive treatment and meet her basic needs.

Her mother carries her in her arms, accompanies her through the day, and speaks about her with clear determination: her daughter has the right to life, care, and dignity, no matter how difficult her condition is.

A Wish for a Small Movement That Carries a Great Meaning

When speaking about physical therapy, Batoul’s mother expresses her hope that it will help her daughter sit and hold her hand. She is not talking about distant achievements; she hopes for moments when Batoul can move better, or express her need in a way her mother can understand.

She says that her daughter used to say “mama,” and that she misses hearing it from her now. For this mother, the word carries more than just a sound; it is a bond with her daughter, a sign she waits for in order to feel reassured about her and sense what she needs.

And when she hopes that Batoul will squeeze her hand if she is in pain, she is expressing one of the hardest parts of caregiving: to see your child suffer, and to look for a way to understand her pain and ease it. That is why she clings to the hope of obtaining the proper care and rehabilitation, to help Batoul find comfort, communication, and movement as much as her condition allows.

Daily Care That Needs Support

Batoul’s mother explains that she has had to begin asking for help to provide for her daughter’s basic needs. Behind this plea lies a constant responsibility; care is not limited to a medical appointment or a therapy session, but extends across an entire day of attention, follow-up, and assistance.

The family needs support that eases the burden of caring for Batoul and helps them secure her daily needs while continuing to seek treatment. When it is difficult to provide the basics, access to care becomes more complicated, and the mother finds herself torn between staying by her daughter’s side and searching for the means necessary to care for her.

Batoul’s mother asks people to stand with her and help her provide what her daughter needs in order to live with dignity. It is a clear and direct request, carrying a mother’s determination not to leave her daughter without care because of harsh circumstances or limited resources.

Batoul Deserves Care and a Chance to Be Cared For

Behind the medical description is a girl with needs and feelings, and a right to find someone who understands and cares for her. Batoul deserves for her suffering to be taken seriously, to receive proper medical assessment and care, and to have access to comfort and support in her daily life.

Her mother also deserves to find support. A mother’s love is present in every word she says, but providing treatment and care supplies also requires resources. The support that reaches this family can ease a tangible burden and help the mother continue caring for her daughter.

The goals of treatment and rehabilitation remain linked to the assessment of specialists and to Batoul’s condition. As for the hope her mother expresses, it is that her daughter’s life becomes more comfortable, that she be given the chance to improve her abilities as much as possible, and that she find someone who gives her needs the attention they deserve.
